Tuscany tour

The fact that the Apuan Alps are so dose to the sea, and that therefore the warm sea- winds come up against an immediate obstacle, makes Versilia an area of frequent rainfall. The coasts are also exposed to strong south-westerly gales, while the mid-August storms - to be feared the whole length of the coastline - disrupt the bathers on the beach in a way that has practically be-come a locai tradition.
In geological terms the region of Tuscany is not ali that ancient, and for the most part it cannot be placed earlier than the Tertiary Age.
